The opening scene to Freddy vs Jason begins with Freddy's narration describing what he was and he became what he is. It includes clips from 'nightmare on elm street' showing what happened to him. Freddy goes on to say that he's been searching hell to find a way to return! All this reminds the audience of the epic first movie instantly hooking them because they want to see what happens next. Freddy saying he found a way to return hooks them further by forcing the audience to wander how he's managed it.
